Interaction of Carthamus oil, chromium picolinate and glyburide in blood glucose and its impact on liver enzymes and lipid profile in diabetes-induced rats

Introduction: Carthamus oil is a compound that has the potential to be used in numerous applications due its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory and neuroprotective effects. Chromium picolinate been indicated for control of insulin resistance. Aim: To evaluate effect (30 mg/kg) chromium (5 µg/kg) interaction with oral glyburide chemically diabetes-induced Wistar rats influence on drug therapy. Method: Diabetes mellitus was induced streptozotocin, animals were randomized into experimental groups (n= 6/group), who received gastric gavage treatments ten days, G1: control, G2: diabetic glyburide, G3: picolinate, G4: picolinate. After treatment period, fasting blood glucose, post-sucrose total cholesterol triglyceride levels, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) aspartate (AST) serum compared, addition urine analysis. Results: In this study, only altered parameters glucose measurement lowest result G4 (P <0.05), ALT measurement, lower values <0.05) compared G1. Conclusion: It can concluded unprecedented oil, contributed reduction levels promising future studies humans.
